What kind of content should I put on my website? PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 14 March 2005
We can assist you in putting any content you like on your website provided that it does not violate the Terms of Service or Acceptable Use Policies.

Many lodges like to have at least 3 news sections to separate out the different stories that might arise.  For example in a Blue Lodge website one might see a message from "The East" a "Chaplain's Report" and a section on "Good News" but you're certainly not limited to that.  You can have sections for anything you like.

As a service to the community we would like to offer a few suggestions on content which are designed to protect the best interests of your lodge.  These are by no means, rules, just suggestions from a brother on what I would put online.

Example Website Guidlines:

1. No listings of Grand or Subordinate Lodge Officer's home and/or business addresses or phone numbers are to be listed, displayed or otherwise obtainable through the website. EXCEPTION: You may list the address and phone number of the Lodge as approved by the W.M. of the lodge or so conveyed elsewhere on the web (e.g. If they list their number / address or lodge email address on their own website)

2. No listings of member's home and/or business addresses or phone numbers are to be listed, displayed or otherwise obtainable through the website.

3. Business email addresses for members can not be listed, displayed or otherwise obtainable on the website.

4. Personal email addresses for members can not be listed, displayed or otherwise obtainable on the website without first gaining permission from the member. If a member is to receive regular communication for lodge business it is advisable to use a lodge issued email address rather than the member's personal email address.

5. Activities listed will not contain statements indicating that it is "OPEN TO ALL MASONS", or any other wording that may be construed as such. It is permissible to announce activities that are "OPEN TO THE PUBLIC" such as Lodge Officers Installation, Ladies nights and other related activities that have previously been established. If in doubt err on the side of caution and do not list the event.

6. When listing activities for Masons, they will be referred to as "A.F. & A.M.", or "F. & A.M.", or "FREEMASONS" only.

7. History may be listed for your Lodge, but NO reference will be made to any type of "MODES OF RECOGNITION" of Freemasonry.

8. The ability to submit content is open to all visitors, however it remains the duty of the webmaster to review all submission prior to being made publically available through the website.  EXCEPTION: The Worshipful Master (or a delegate thereof) may be granted permission to post content directly to the web with prior approval of the W.M. and proper training for such activity delivered by the webmaster. (E.G. - Chaplain's Report submitted by the Chaplain).
