Is Masonry a Religion? PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 14 March 2005
Absolutey NOT!  I can not stress this enough, it is the first and most basic requirement of our fraternity that we believe in a Deity, however we are not a religion. I say a Deity because not all Masons are Christians, our brother hood extends throughout all types of religions. Therefore, to become a Mason, you cannot be an Atheist or Satanist. Masonry is comprised of many principals, some of which are religious in nature, but we do not teach or preach religion. The same goes for politics, and other topics which each person may view differently than another. These differences can cause dissention amongst the brethern, and are therefore not discussed in lodge. Masonry does however strive to teach certain social and moral virtures as we have discussed. Some of those virtues we hold so dearly are those that best serve in the interest of humanity like, tolerance, acceptance, charity, prudence, freindship, morality and brotherly love.
